Carl Johnson

Carl is a painter, sculptor, and set designer. His artwork is included in several collections in the US and Great Britain and was featured in a one-person exhibition at the Peter Miller Gallery in Chicago. In addition to pursuing work as a visual artist, Carl has served as a professional set designer and scenic artist for the past 15 years. He has designed sets for Riverbed productions including Instructions for Tears, Water Talk, Beautiful Shakespeare, Gasoline Smiles, Headless in Los Angeles, The Life and Times of Robert Wilson, and Exploding Rice. Carl taught painting and set design classes as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in the Department of Theatre and Drama at National Taiwan University in Taipei for two years (2004-2006). He currently is a member of the faculty at Northwestern University where he teaches a multilevel painting course for graduate and undergraduate students. Carl received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
